Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use my HSA or FSA?
Yes. HSA (Health Savings Account) and FSA (Flexible Spending Account) cards are accepted for all packages. Genetic counseling is typically an eligible expense under both account types. You can pay with your HSA/FSA card directly when you book through Jane.
Is this covered by insurance?
I operate as an out-of-network, self-pay service, which means I don't bill insurance
directly. Some clients choose to submit for reimbursement using their receipt. If that's
something you'd like to try, I can provide a detailed invoice (called a superbill) with
diagnosis and procedure codes that you submit to your insurer. HSA and FSA cards are
accepted for all packages. If you have a Health Savings Account or Flexible Spending
Account through your employer, genetic counseling is typically an eligible expense
you can pay with your HSA/FSA card at checkout.
How quickly can I get an appointment?
Most patients can be seen within 5 business days. For time-sensitive situations like
an abnormal NIPT result during pregnancy or a PGT decision before an upcoming IVF
cycle, I do my best to accommodate urgent scheduling. Reach out via the contact form
or email office@minneapolisgenetics.com and let me know your timeline.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellations made 48 hours or more before your appointment receive a full refund. Cancellations made less than 48 hours before your appointment forfeit 50% of the package fee. No-shows forfeit the full fee. If you've completed your intake session but need to discontinue mid-package, a prorated refund of the unused portion (typically 40% of the package value) will be issued within 14 days.
Do you offer written summaries or letters?
Yes. Written summaries are included in every package except Ask Me Now. After your
session, I'll prepare a personalized summary you can share with your OB, MFM, or
fertility team. Summaries are typically delivered within 3 business days of your results
review session.
Can I book for a couple or as a family?
Yes! Genetic counseling often involves partners or loved ones. You’re welcome to attend together, just let me know who will be joining so I can plan accordingly. The focused consults work best for couples or more complex conversations.
Do I need a referral or doctor’s order?
Nope! You can book directly. While some clients come to me through their OB-GYN or fertility clinic, many reach out on their own. I’m here to help you make sense of results or next steps, no matter where you are in your care journey.
What states can you see patients in?
I am licensed as a genetic counselor in Minnesota. I am also available to patients in 13 additional states that do not currently require separate state licensure for genetic counselors: Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Maine, Missouri, New York, North Carolina, Texas, Vermont, Washington DC, West Virginia, and Wyoming. You must be physically located in one of these states at the time of your appointment. If your state is not listed, please contact me the regulatory landscape is changing and I may be able to help.
What if I’m not sure what kind of session I need?
That's totally fine, you don't need to know. If you're not sure which package fits, start with an Ask Me Now session ($95, 15 minutes). We'll talk through your situation and I'll recommend the right next step. There's no pressure to commit to a larger package, and if you do decide to move forward, I'll help you choose the one that matches where you are.
Will you help me understand my test results?
Absolutely. Whether it’s a result you weren’t expecting, a lab report full of confusing terms, or just something that’s been weighing on your mind I’ll walk you through what it means in plain language. You’ll leave with clarity and a sense of what to do next.
Do you work with specific labs or fertility clinics?
I’m familiar with all the major labs, including Natera, Myriad, Quest, and BillionToOne, and often help clients interpret their results from those sources. I’m also happy to collaborate with your OB-GYN, REI, or midwife. We’re all on the same team.
What is genetic counseling, and how do I know if I need it?
Genetic counseling is a personalized session where we talk through your medical and family history to better understand how genetics may impact your health or pregnancy. Think of it as a guided conversation equal parts education, support, and decision-making help. You might benefit from a session if you’ve had testing (like NIPS or carrier screening), are planning a pregnancy, are currently pregnant, or just want clearer answers about your genetic risks.
Is this secure and HIPAA-compliant?
Yes. I use a secure video platform and HIPAA-compliant scheduling and communication tools, so your information stays protected. You’re also welcome to ask about how your data is stored or shared transparency is part of feeling supported.
